Social Innovation in Industrial Towns

Social Life is convening a panel at the Glasgow International Social Innovation Research conference. This will bring together partners from our Bright Future project in a session on social innovation in industrial towns.

Nicola Bacon and Claire Gordon will be speaking on our experience of using social sustainability as a prompt for social innovation in towns. There will also be contributions from:

  • the University of Eastern Finland on the relationship between the industrial past and development of Kajanni, a former Finnish forestry town
  • industrial culture as an asset of the post-socialist town, looking at the experience of Velenje, from the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts
  • reinvening Herleen, a former mining town in the Netherlands, from the University of Amsterdam.
