What kind of information do we collect?

If you register or sign up for events, newsletters or publications on the site, we may ask you for personal information such as your name, email address, occupation and other contact details. We may also ask you for feedback about Social Life or to complete surveys. We may record your activity and preferences when visiting the sites (see "Cookies" below). If you post content or communicate via the site, we may also store and monitor your content and communications.

We also collect some personal data from people who take part in our research projects, this is limited to the minimum needed for each project.

How do we deal with your data

Mailing lists

As part of the registration process for our e-newsletter, we collect personal information. We use that information for a couple of reasons: to tell you about our work and events; to contact you if we need to obtain or provide additional information; to check our records are right and to check every now and then that you’re happy and satisfied.

We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our newsletter. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter.

For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice.

You can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time of the day or night by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails or by emailing hello@social-life.co.

Personal information

Social Life carries out a number of different research projects. For these we often need to collect personal data from research participants.

We limit the amount of personal information collected to the minimum, and never ask for this unless it is necessary for the purposes of the research (for example, so we can contact you in the future, or to check that a sample of respondents to a particular survey is representative).

All transcipts will be anonymised, any personal data needed to identify participants will be kept separately and securely. All our primary research data will also be kept securely and access to it will be limited.

You have the right to see what data we hold about you and to ask us to delete this. If you would like to do this please contact Nicola Bacon on nicola.bacon@social-life.co.
