Future Cities Solutions: Project Stentor

Stentor, in Greek mythology, was a herald who was famous for his powerful voice. Project Stentor helps data to speak.

Project Stentor was a pilot project to build a prototype open-source, comparative city dashboard that synthesizes, analyzes and maps complex datasets so city leaders and decision-makers can better understand the dynamics of the places they manage. In 2014 feasibility work was carried out in Hackney, Bexley and Cambridgeshire, exploring how councils and their partners used place based data. A prototype dashboard was created, which Social Life and Mastodon C intend to develop further in 2015.

Project Stentor was funded through the Technology Strategy Board's Future Cities Solutions Competition, a Small Business Research Initiative to stimulate solutions in three areas where UK cities face many of the same specific challenges: in energy, data and transportation.
