Social Life was commissioned to undertake a social impact survey of Grow Elephant, a community gardening project local to our offices in Elephant & Castle.
Grow Elephant is one of London’s first mobile garden, designed to be temporarily accommodated in the unused sites of the area. At the time of the research, in July & August 2017, the garden was installed in the Elephant Park construction site on the New Kent Road - the site of the old Heygate estate. Here it consisted of both a garden and a community venue, the Tropics Cafe. The report explores its impact as a growing project, a community hub and a unique venue in the city.
Grow Elephant is now seeking a new home in the local area to ensure it can carry on building on the community energy and local relationships that it has helped to foster.
