Elephant & Castle is at the epicentre of seismic change for South London. Based just off the Walworth Road, Social Life has had a ringside seat.
Join us on a guided walk around this dramatically changing neighbourhood. We'll meet in one of the historic yards on the Pullens Estate, before heading off to explore the layered histories of the area and find some of its newest architectural developments. As we walk and talk we’ll ask you to respond to what you see and feel.
We’ll finish by collectively mapping our experiences, reflecting on the impact of ongoing change, and capturing everyone’s voices in a shared map.
Since we last performed this walk, the much-loved shopping centre has been demolished, more towers built, and Elephant Park begun to attract a new community. This year we will revisit what we heard in 2019, adding new voices and perspectives that illuminate the impacts of these changes.
We'll also be showing local photographer Crispin Hughes' ongoing project "Opportunity Area", documenting the contrast between the humanity of the street below and the frenzy of high rise building.
Bookings preferred, though drop ins welcome to attend if space available. You can book here.
