Social Life and OURI Labs have partnered to co-design tools that make it easier for the NHS to release its surplus land for community-led housing. We’re delighted to announce that Impact on Urban Health are funding the first stage of this programme of research and practical action.
Both organisations have seen how community-led housing projects can improve health equity in communities. For this project, we’re asking: What health and social value can be created through developing high-quality, community-led housing on NHS surplus land?
This approach aligns with the NHS 10 Year Health Plan and its focus on addressing social determinants of health, as well as the Property Services Healthy Places programme, and the NHS Homes Alliance white paper of 2023 - both of which offer strategies for maximising the public health benefits of under-used NHS sites.
