The Centre for the New Midlands and Social Life have been commissioned by Arcadis to develop and test a the neighbourhood quality dimension of a Decent Neighbourhood Standard (DNS) demonstrator in South Birmingham focusing on the Druids Heath and Monyhull Ward, Birmingham.
This initiative aims to inform Arcadis’s existing strategic involvement in the Druids Heath regeneration and master planning process, aiming to provide a dashboard of practical, local measures of neighbourhood quality and embed them in long-term place transformation by feeding into the design and delivery works.
Our work as independent researchers are focused on a desktop analysis and aims to develop an indicator dashboard focused on neighbourhood quality providing a framework which can inform the future of the neighbourhood.
The demonstrator builds on our joint work and collaborations on a research programme to develop, operationalise and test a Decent Neighbourhood Standard, a minimum neighbourhood quality standard to address place-based inequalities, empower communities and support a decent quality of life for all. We believe cultivating trust needs to be a key part of enabling decency in neighbourhoods.
