Social Life Practice CIC

In 2025 we started work on setting up a Community Interest Company - Social Life Practice CIC.

We have found that reearch is not enough. The chronic challenges we diagnosed 15 years ago when we set up Social LIfe Ltd persist - new housing developments are still failing to create flourishing communities, regeneration is increasing tensions rather than creating new opportunities, infrastructure is still too focused on physical performance instead of social value. During this time, pressures of climate breakdown, inequality and erosion of social trust have intensified.

We have become thought-leaders on the social dimensions of neighbourhood change. For over a decade we’ve worked across sectors in the UK and internationally to understand the relationship between people and place. We have listened to thousands of residents and worked in over 50 neighbourhoods. We know what makes some places succeed and others fail.

Moving from research to practice

We have set up Social Life Practice CIC to translate our deep insight into tangible, place-based action.

Social Life Practice CIC is designed to deliver grounded, lasting impact by dedicating resources to long-term systemic change embedded in local neighbourhoods. So far our work has been project-led, the CIC allows us to stay rooted in the places and issues that we care about, ensuring that social value is not just measured, but actively created.

Core challenges

We will focus on three core areas where there is most potential to maximise our impact

  1.  Neighbourhood ecosystems: social infrastucture and networks
  2. Power redistribution: restructuring governance
  3. Value-based action: alternative delivery models for neighbourhoods and housing

We are actively developing our workstreams and working with collaborators.
