Social Life have been asked to carry out a detailed assessment of the community surrounding St Mark’s Hamilton Terrace to inform the re - provision of community space after a catastrophic fire destroyed the church in 2023
The aim of this work has been to understand the needs that exist in the local community, who could potentially benefit from new community facilities at St Mark’s and where there are likely to be “hidden needs” and groups who may be particularly vulnerable.
Project activities
● Site visits: three visits to St Mark’s Church and surrounding neighbourhoods, including trips to meet key stakeholders.
● Observations: Assessing existing community provision, local geography, and informal support networks through observing notice boards, shops, and cafes to understand neighbourhood dynamics and community cohesion.
● Data mapping: Analyse official data (Census 2021, Index of Multiple Deprivation 2025, public health, education) and Social Life’s Community Dynamics data to gauge local needs and sentiment.
