This report is the first output of our work with Ouri Labs and Impact on Urban Health to accelerate the use of NHS surplus land for community-led housing.
This first stage of our work focused on reviewing existing evidence about the impact of community-led housing - from Community Land Trusts to co-housing and housing coops. From this we developed an evidence framework that consolidates data on the social determinants of health associated with community led housing.
The framework is based on Social Life’s tried and tested social sustainability framework, which has been used for over ten years to identify indicators of meaningful neighbourhood change.
In the next phase of our research we will be meeting with NHS stakeholders to gather a more comprehensive picture of the barriers and opportunities for using NHS surplus land for community-led housing.
