The Social Life of Cities: What is the designer's role?

LONDON FESTIVAL OF ARCHITECTURE EVENTS - JUNE 27, 2012, 4-6 PM AT JOHN THOMPSON & PARTNERS

This discussion will address the importance of the built environment on the social life of the city, and explore the techniques designers can use to ensure the places they make encourage play in the widest sense, and nurture thriving communities.

Based on projects by architects and urbanists John Thompson & Partners (JTP), and recent research by Social Life, a new venture set up by The Young Foundation, this event places social sustainability at the centre of the ongoing placemaking debate and offers both theoretical insight and practical advice on how to put life into our neighbourhoods, towns and cities.

Coinciding with the event, will be the launch of a JTP publication exploring social sustainability at its award-winning development, The Village at Caterham.

Please email rsvp@jtp.co.uk if you are interested in attending.
